Rain collection device is a 13 oz, metal Folgers coffee can.
Measurements are made using a Chinese or Taiwan made plastic ruler.
I prefer the yellow ones.

Current conditions are indicated using a carefully selected stone attached to 18 inches of military surplus boot lace.
Chart below is helpful in reading stone condition to properly report current weather conditions.

1. Stone is swaying = wind is blowing
2. Stone is wet = it's raining
3. Stone is white = it's snowing
4. Stone is hot = it's summer
5. Stone is cold = it's winter
6. Stone is missing = possible tornado
Or neighbor hood kids stole your rock!

Other indicators may also be taken into consideration in forecasting weather events.
